Dinner at Salsa Mexican Grill
You know sometimes you just need a night out on the town – a bit of a breather. A trendy vibe was needed to lift my mood – Salsa Mexican Grill had just opened in our neighbourhood, so would there be a better time? I think not!
First impressions and vibe
The decor and feel of the Salsa Mexican Grill is colourful, vibey and upbeat – every meal should be a celebration (as quoted from their website) and you immediately feel this from walking in. (Not to mention that it was packed and all the restaurants around it weren’t!)
From the bright colours, and Mexican flair, the decor is everything but subtle. Fun accents including Mexican Sombreros through to colourful mosaic tile walls and tables give you a warm and welcome feeling.
And lastly – thinking a Tuesday evening, in the middle of Janu-worry, would be quiet – WRONG! Make a reservation if you are keen to check them out!
Menu and Food
When you are seated, you get welcomed with a food and drinks menu. The food menu allows you to create your own meal – either by either creating your own dish or by selecting the pre-created meals. We decided to create our own meals, which you can do by ticking boxes of various items you’d like to eat.
I chose two salsas and dips but wanted them on the side as I couldn’t decide – and this isn’t a problem at all for the kitchen who happily plated them separately for me!
There are tons are super healthy options, from free range chicken and grass fed beef to chopped lettuce, beetroot and sweet potato crisps (ok these technically aren’t healthy in large quantities but the portion they give is perfect!)
Service
The servers and managers on duty were incredible! Despite being busy and having no tables, the manager sat us down at a more relaxed area to have a drink while we waited for a table. Special requests were taken without any hesitation (salsa on the side for instance) and the overall atmosphere was incredible (smiles all round!).
They all have a fab birthday celebration which is the cutest! (picture sparklers, celebrating waiters, mexican sombreros and music to match).
Thoughts
I’m in love! There are 12 Salsa Grills around South Africa, so it’s not a unique, one of a kind vibe. But! Compared to the current chains in South Africa, Salsa offers you a fun dining experience with yum food and a trendy vibe. My new favourite out-of-the-ordinary place to go.
