How to get your motivation back and why it matters
Did you make a todo list today and then not follow through and cross things off? This one’s for you!
Have you ever lost your motivation and wondered if you would ever get it back? (side note – the more pressure you put on yourself, the less likely you will get it back!). I thought today would be a good time to look at this a bit more – perhaps you have recently lost your motivation and are stuck in a rut or perhaps this is just a good time hear it before we head into the new year and need to have something to get in the right mind set
Now is the time to fix your lack of motivation, let’s do this together!
Are you tired? Yes? Then get some rest! Sleep and motivation go hand in hand, so make sure you get your beauty sleep tonight. If you are sleep deprived, you will be more likely to procrastinate when doing things, you will be more likely to be slightly down or depressed. You will definitely not feel like doing anything – trust me on this one. I have definitely been in this place in my life – a few times. I also didn’t realise how tired I was – I was going to bed ‘on-time’ and getting a good 7 hours of ‘sleep’ in, but I soon realised that you need to get good or decent sleep in for it to count.
Don’t let lack of sleep be your downfall.
Next to sleep, is exercise. Forget about the impact it has on your body for a second – exercise and moving your body has such a positive impact on your emotions, your mood. Besides circulating more oxygen through your bloodstream, it also decreases your blood pressure and improves your memory skills and thinking ability.
Is your passion in the right place – what is the reason you are doing what you are doing? Is it a good enough reason? You need a strong enough reason to do what you want to do. Maybe you are trying to lose weight – then doing it to look good may not be a good enough reason. Perhaps you are studying and want to get distinctions in all of your subjects – then doing it for other people won’t give you enough motivation to be able to study and work hard enough to achieve it. A better reason may be that you need those grades to keep your bursary or get the top job in the market (which means you are able to support your family).
And lastly, don’t forget to be kind to yourself. Sometimes we aren’t patient enough with ourselves – it takes time to see progress, and I see so many people (including myself) lose patience with themselves, lose motivation and quite quickly give-up.
Go out there and rock it. Don’t let anything stop you.
